I am now entering my second week of the SIG at Yale University. When I applied for this position I was somewhat unsure of how this would help me and my musical career. I’ll be honest and say that the hours are longer than I thought and I haven’t been doing much playing, and since this camp is not a music camp I can’t even say that I’m around music all that much. BUT! Doing this camp has affirmed something that I have been saying for a while and THAT IS that in diversifying ones self one will inadvertently broaden ones mind (IN ALL WAYS!!!). Yes, perhaps my tuba playing hasn’t been tended to as much as I would have liked, but in doing this I have been inspired by all of these very special children around me. In seeing their ernest excitement for their varied interests, I have strengthened mine. In observing their intellectual prowess, I am encouraged, and motivated to increase my own.
In other words, JUST DO IT!!! If life experiences, events, pain, sorrow, happiness… can be heard in your music than WHY NOT EXPERIENCE THE WORLD. LET THE WORLD BE HEARD THROUGH YOUR MUSIC.
